The Old Ikuno Club
Cultural Property
The Old Ikuno Club was built in 1886 as the residence of a noted prospector of the time. It has a room where the Imperial Prince Taruhito Arisugawa stayed during his visit to inspect the Ikuno Mines. Another room is the Sauranoma, where Akiyoshi Yamada, Japan's first Minister of Justice and founder of Nihon University and Kokugakuin University, was laid in repose when he passed away unexpectedly during a visit to the region. The Mitsubishi Company purchased the building in 1956 and used it as a company recreational facility and guest house. The company later donated it to Asago City. Investigations are now being done into the future of the building.
